Happy Anniversary

There’s a layer of dust in our house.
Which is odd.
Because she’s told all the time.
You’re a domestic goddess’.

And they tell me -

‘You’re a lucky man’. Batting well-above!
You don’t deserve her’
Because -
‘Cleanliness is next to godliness’.

And she’s no sinner (unlike me?)

But this dust - in our house -
It’s not like normal dust.
You know - that thin layer -
Surface dust. The sort that’s easy to remove.

And there’s a satisfaction to be had in that process.

One sweep. Gone!
But this - is heavy
engrained
layered

accumulated.

Day-after-day
month-after-month.
Year-after-year.
Happy Anniversary darling.
