On the Wheel Again
Recently, my GP
(who is beautiful btw)
told me.
‘The official onset of old age is 60.’
That put me in a melancholy mood -
because -
the fact that I can see that she is beautiful
seemed to be irrelevant to the people who set that number.
And perhaps - because of my age
people lack the imagination - the understanding.
That a man like me - can still experience life in such terms.
And while I was riding my bike -
fading winter light of softly elongating shadows - the twilight zone.
I was at ease with myself. Consoled by this life - so far - well-lived.
But when a stranger - coming fast from behind times shadow - flashed by
it unsettled me.
I found myself -
‘On the wheel again’ -
Chasing youths illusive dream.
