The Frogs are always greener

On a blistering hot day - he mused.

‘It’s true what they say,
the lilies are greener at this time of day.
Not like the ones round here - all sterile and grey’
as he hopped off his leaf,

and made his way to the other side of the pond -
frog-stroking quite stylishly all of the way -
to where a dream-frog was resting,
in the heat of the day.

 ‘Great legs,’ she swooned,
‘but what brings you here? And -
‘why hop onto my leaf my long legged dear?’
‘I was thinking’, he said -

‘about your side of town.
The lilies are greener, than where I live now.
Where most of the frogs, my side of the pond,
are much like the leaves. All dingy and done!

SO BORING!’ He croaked (in sheer desperation).
‘A creature like me, needs more stimulation -
than minnows, mosquitoes -
it needs: EXCITATION!

And you - you sweet thing - have attracted the eye,
of this charming young frog just swimmingly by,
to ask how you are -
in my charming-frog way

and -

do you always bathe topless at this time of day?’

image; Internet. ‘A dandy young frog came swimmingly by’.

For Lis - dreaming of a girl across a pond - sitting on a lily pad.

And a charming young frog -

waiting to be kissed.
