Walking in my Shoes
were you mocking me when you said
‘I wish I could walk in your shoes’
has your life has been so hard?
what you see in me?
who you think you want to be.
but you don’t know that.
how could you?
you’ve never walked my mourning paths
dreamed my broken dreams
lived their disappointment.
smiled - times you should have cried.
but I’d quickly learned -
‘big boys don’t cry.’
in these shoes I walked my first desire.
held her hand. loved her. she holds my heart
forever.
and in these shoes
I stood too shy
watched her walk away.
were you mocking me when you said.
‘I wish I could walk in your shoes’
